Reducing Trasatlantics Barriers To Trade & Investment. Centre for Economic Policy Research, London. It takes a detailed look at current transatlantic trade and investment flows and existing barriers to these, and then uses economic modelling to estimate the potential impact of different policy scenarios. The study highlights the huge gains to be made from liberalising EU-US trade, not just for the two trading blocs, but also for the global economy. The study was commissioned by the European Commission's Directorate General for Trade. This memo summarises the study's key findings. ANNEX

Acuerdo Trasatlántico sobre Comercio e Inversión. La UE y los Estados Unidos han decidido elevar el nivel de su relación económica y se han comprometido a entablar la negociación de un acuerdo global sobre comercio e inversión. Una vez concluida la negociación, este será el mayor acuerdo comercial bilateral jamás negociado, y podría traducirse en un aumento de la producción económica anual de la UE del 0,5 %.  En las negociaciones se intentará obtener un resultado ambicioso en tres grandes áreas: 

a) el acceso a los mercados; b) los problemas de reglamentación y las barreras no arancelarias; y c) las normas, los principios y los nuevos modos de cooperación para abordar los retos y las oportunidades comunes en el ámbito del comercio mundial.

The Member States of the EU have agreed to pool some of their sovereign powers for the sake of unity and promotion of shared values, just as American states did to create a federal republic. In the fields where national sovereignty has been pooled, such as trade, the EU negotiates directly with the United States  and other countries on behalf of all the Member States.
