EUROPEAN UNION LABOUR FORCE ANNUAL RESULT July 2011 The picture of the EU labour market in 2010 was still being determined by the negative trends triggered by the recent economic crisis, although with less intensity than the year before. The EU employment rate1 of persons of working age (15-64) fell in 2010 by 0.4 p.p. to 64.2% (see figure 1). It decreased to 70.1% (-0.6 p.p.) for men and to 58.2% (-0.4 p.p.) for women.

Monthly Labour Market Fact Sheet July 2011 According to the latest Monthly Labour Market Fact Sheet published by the European Commission, the EU average unemployment rate stood at 9.3%, the same level as in April but down 0.4 percentage point (pp) compared to May 2010. 

CEDEFOP July 2011 Upper secondary VET: a more frequent choice among boys than girls In the EU, about 50% of upper secondary students are enrolled in the vocational stream of education. However, among male students the proportion (55%) is significantly higher than it is among female students (44%). 

 

European Job Mobility July 2011 EURES According to the July edition of the European Vacancy Monitor, labour demand increased in the private sector in most EU countries. Employment in the public sector shrank, mainly in the areas of education, health and social work. Recovery in the private sector favoured mainly industrial workers, technicians, plant and machine operators, craft and related trade workers. Job vacancies in manufacturing rose by around 50 % in the fourth quarter of 2010 compared to the same quarter in 2009.
